The Trinidad City Council voted unanimously to advance an ordinance Wednesday evening banning cannabis businesses within city limits and setting regulations for personal grows.
The ordinance will still need to go back to the council for final approval in November, but City Manager Dan Berman said he does not expect the ordinance to go through any changes.
“So far, the community that has commented has been very supportive of what the council is doing,” Berman said.
The ordinance will take effect 30 days after final approval.
Similar to Fortuna and Blue Lake, Trinidad would ban any commercial cannabis activities within the city. California law allows people to grow up to six plants for personal use, but local governments are allowed to set certain regulations for personal grows such as banning outdoor cultivation.
