SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA – While smoke from numerous wildfires in the North Bay affected visibility today at San Francisco International Airport, flights at Mineta San Jose International Airport were unaffected.
No impacts were reported Wednesday either, spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes said. Operations at Oakland International Airport were unaffected, as well.
But at SFO, many delays and cancellations were logged, an airport spokesman said.
As of mid-morning, 81 flights were canceled, and about 10 percent of flights were delayed an average of 30 to 45 minutes, SFO spokesman Doug Yakel said. The number of cancellations was about evenly split between arrivals and departures.
Two flights from SFO landed in Oakland due to the smoke issues.
The FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center last reported that the low visibility at SFO was causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of two-and-a-half hours, and advised travelers to check with their airlines for updates or…
