McKinleyville and Eureka volleyball hold annual cancer awareness games







Thursday night at the Eureka and McKinleyville High School gymnasiums was definitely a time to “Think pink.”

Both the Loggers and the Panthers held their annual breast cancer awareness games — the Loggers taking on Del Norte while Mack hosted Fortuna.

Fortuna 3, McKinleyville 2 >> In what has become the modus operandi for the two clubs, the Huskies downed the Panthers 3-2 on Thursday.

Fortuna outlasted Mack 18-25, 24-26, 25-20, 25-14 and 19-17 in the fourth five-set thriller the two teams have played this season.

Rian Heenan led Mack with seven kills and six blocks. Mackie Gonsalves had six aces and Lexi White led Mack with 19 assists and five aces.

But the most important state of the night for the Panthers were their digs. In what is dubbed their “DIG IT!” game, players raise funds from sponsors for every dig tallied in both the JV and varsity games.

All told, the Panthers totalled 157 digs for the varsity…
