Humboldt County is poised to benefit from a recently approved package of state bills that aims to increase California affordable housing options, according to North Coast state Sen. Mike McGuire.
Gov. Jerry Brown recently signed a package of 15 bills that seek to increase the state’s affordable housing stock through new regulations and new revenue sources.
McGuire (D-Healdsburg) said last week the bill that will impact the North Coast the most is SB 3, a $4 billion housing bond in which $300 million will be earmarked for small counties.
“We have made it our mission to earmark dollars for rural counties in small communities,” McGuire said. “We’re grateful to [15th District] Sen. [Jim] Beall and the governor for their willingness to work with us to ensure rural California benefits from these affordable housing dollars.”
Another $1 billion of the bond will go toward housing for veterans, farm workers and mobile homes.
