Family files federal lawsuit in fatal police shooting – News – recordnet.com

STOCKTON — Four days before the first anniversary of the fatal police shooting of Colby Friday, two attorneys representing his family announced they have filed a federal lawsuit against the city, the Stockton Police Department, Police Chief Eric Jones and Officer David Wells.

Yolanda Huang, an Oakland-based attorney, and Sacramento attorney Mark Merin are representing the daughters of 30-year-old Friday, who was fatally shot by Stockton police Officer David Wells on Aug. 16, 2016.

The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California.

“This lawsuit is saying that the city of Stockton and Stockton police have known for a long time of police officers who are violent and they have not taken any action to prevent future harm,” Huang said Saturday. “A year before David Wells murdered Colby Friday, the community put out a postcard naming him as the No. 1…
