Bay Area air quality compared to world’s most polluted cities

As smoke from Northern California wildfires choke the Bay Area, a web site compares the current air quality in the Bay Area to the air quality of some of the most polluted cities in the world.

Breezometer culls together data from satellites, government monitoring stations, traffic and weather outlets to construct hyperlocal air quality indexes. According to recent data, the air quality in the San Francisco Bay Area is worse than the air quality in cities like Jeddah, Saudia Arabia; Gwalior, India; Xingtai, China; and Lahore, Pakistan, consistently on lists of the world’s most polluted locales.

The wildfires continue to pour tons of soot and ash into the air. Experts are urging people to stay indoors as much as possible and avoid strenuous exercise in smoky areas.
